HELP SAVE THE LIVES OF ABANDONED AND DESTITUTE BABIES AND CHILDREN IN KENYA

2,000 PLUS

KUJALI CURRENTLY SUPPORTS OVER 2,000 CHILDREN IN KENYA.

A dozen abandoned babies in our baby unit.

A dozen teenage mothers and other vulnerable children in our care centre.

1,200 schoolchildren in our feeding programmes.

750 children through our counselling services.

Kujali (meaning “to care” in Swahili) was founded in 1999 as a Children’s Charitable Institute and NGO, governed by the Kenyan Children’s Office. Initially housed in a renovated dilapidated building in Majengo, a run-down suburb of Thika, it moved to its current purpose-built centre in Ngoingwa on land donated by the ladies of the Ngoingwa Company.

It was initially set up as an orphanage providing a long-term home and support for Kenya’s poorest and most vulnerable girls.  As the ambitions of the Kenyan Government, in line with many other countries, moved away from long-term institutional support Kujali transformed itself into a care centre providing welfare programmes for abandoned babies and pregnant teenagers.  The existing orphans were re-integrated into their families and/or communities, with their education continuing to be supported by Kujali.

Kujali operates within the context of the Children Act 2022 and under the standards set out in the National Standards for Best Practices in Charitable Children’s Institutions. All the children that we support are passed to us under the direction of the Thika Children’s Office and through Court Orders.  The Children’s Office praises Kujali as one of the most progressive organisations they work with.

Kujali delivers 7 Child Welfare Programmes aimed at both resolving issues and, most importantly, preventing their occurrence in the first place.  Click on the images below to read more.
